Glentauchers distillery, situated in Mulben near Keith, has a storied past tracing back to its founding in 1897. Designed by John Alcock and supervised by Charles Doig & Son, the distillery began operating a year later through a collaboration involving James Buchanan Co. Ltd. and three members of Glentauchers Distillery Co.
While it experienced periods of closure, notably when mothballed by United Distillers in 1985 and later sold to Allied Distillers in 1989, Glentauchers remains operational today. Although its primary role is contributing whisky to blended varieties, it saw the release of an official 15-year-old bottling in 2000, preceded by a semi-official bottling by Gordon & MacPhail in the 1990s. Equipped with three spirit stills and three wash stills, the distillery has a production capacity of up to 4,500,000 litres of pure alcohol per year.
