Deanston distillery is situated on the banks of the River Teith, near Stirling. Originally a cotton mill designed by Sir Richard Arkwright in 1785, it transitioned into a distillery in 1966. Notably, Deanston is the sole distillery in Scotland generating its own electricity through hydro-energy. It prides itself on handmade whisky crafted by local artisans, employing traditional methods without the use of technology. Deanston utilises Scottish barley, and since 2000, has produced organic whisky. The distillery’s unique production features include an 11-ton open-topped mash tun and four distinctive pot stills with upwards sloping lyne arms and boiling balls, contributing to its light character.
The spirit matures in the original weaving shed from the 1830s, boasting a capacity of 24,000 casks, making Deanston a distinctive and authentic expression of Highland single malt Scotch whisky
