Dalmunach distillery, nestled in Carron, draws its water from the nearby Ballinom Burn, originating in the Mannoch Hills, and derives its name from a pool on the River Spey.
Situated alongside the Speyside Way and Moray Way footpaths, the distillery’s construction commenced in 2012, occupying part of the former site of the Imperial distillery. Officially opened in 2015, the distillery’s modern design, inspired by a sheaf of barley, earned it the Royal Institute of British Architects Award for Scotland in 2015. Designed with energy efficiency in mind, it utilises renewable energy sources.
The distillery unveiled its first single malt bottlings in 2019, including a 4-year-old single cask release. Boasting impressive facilities, it houses a 12-tonne Briggs full Lauter mash tun, 16 stainless steel washbacks, and eight pot stills, with onion-shaped spirit stills paying homage to the former Imperial distillery. With a capacity of 10 million litres, Dalmunach stands as one of Scotland’s largest distilleries.
